[Class 51 (i)] In refuse-consuming apparatus in which the gases are withdrawn from a refuse combustion chamber 19 through pipes 22, 23 by a fan 6, and delivered, together with combustion air, through a pipe 7 to a combustion chamber 9 burning normal high-value fuel, the two combustion chambers are separated by a watercooled partition 16 fitted with return channels 26, 27 through which a portion of the hot gases developed in the chamber 9 will be forced to flow into the refuse chamber 19. Fig. 6 shows the return channels 26, 27 constructed as short and long downwardly inclined pipes secured to the walls 16a, 16b of the partition 16. The combustion chambers 9, 19 are fitted with an underfeed stoker 3 delivering to a fire-pot 5 and with tilting grates 15 respectively, the air for combustion being supplied to the two chambers at 8, Fig. 1, and 21, Figs. 2 and 3. The fan 6 and stoker 3 are both actuated by a motor 38 controlled by a thermostat 36, while a combined tar-condenser and ash-separator 24 is arranged in the pipe 23 between the refuse chamber 19 and the fan 6. The main portion of the gases leave the combustion chamber 9 through an opening 10 and pass through a zigzag channel 11, formed by water-cooled baffles 12, before escaping through the outlet 13 to the stack flue 14. The walls of the two combustion chambers 9, 19 are water-cooled and pipe connections 39, 40 are provided to enable the entire water space of the installation to be connected to a central-heating system. |
