[Also in Group XXIX] A combined tyre valve cap and pressure gauge comprises a sleeve holder 2, Figs. 1 and 2, fixed to a member 14 which can be screwed on to the tyre valve tube 16 the end of which engages a packing ring 15. Within the sleeve 2 is a slidable transparent plastic cover member 1, the upper narrower part of which projects out of the sleeve 2. A central sleeve 3 extends from the top of the cover 1 and has a coloured preferably luminous scale marked on the outside. A cupshaped piston member 4, also of a transparent plastic, is located inside the cover 1 and is normally retained in the position shown in Fig. 1 by a spring 8, the tension of which is initially adjusted by a setting screw 9 which is then sealed from the outside. The upper end of the piston 4 is marked with a coloured, preferably luminous, ring 5 which forms an index to the scale on the sleeve 3. A packing ring 6 reinforced by a disc 7 is fixed to the bottom of the piston 4. Between the lower end of the cover 1 and the member 14 is a cup-shaped member 12 urged upwardly by a spring 13. At the top of the member 14 is a valve 17 normally closed by a spring 18 and the actuating rod of which is coaxial with the actuating rod 21 of the tyre valve. A disc 19 on the rod 17 abuts the member 12. In operation, the cover 1 is depressed against the pressure of the spring 8, the cup-shaped member 12 and the rod 17 are moved downwardly, opening the associated valve. The rod 17 then depresses the rod 21 thus opening the tyre valve so that air is admitted into the cover 1 and the piston 4 is moved by an amount indicative of the pressure as indicated by the position of the marking ring 5 over the scale on the sleeve 3. After operation the air is exhausted through the part 20.</p> |
