785,804. Thrust bearings. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 19, 1955 [July 19, 1954], No. 20880/55. Class 12 (1). In a thrust bearing arrangement, the load is distributed between individual bearings by wedge surfaces associated with each bearing. As shown in Fig. 2 a split ring 6 has wedge surfaces 6b, 6c which co-operate respectively with an inclined surface on the race ring of a ball bearing 5 and an inclined surface on a sleeve 4 attached to the race ring of a ball bearing 2. In a modification, the member 6 is replaced by a row of balls 6d, Fig. 3. The load between four bearings 2, 5, 10, 13, Fig. 4, is shared by transmitting the load on bearings 2 and 5 to the wedge-shaped lower end 7a of a sleeve 8, and transmitting the load on bearings 10, 13, to a wedgeshaped member 18 abutting a split washer 19. Inclined surfaces at the top of the sleeve 8 and the washer 19 co-operate with inclined surfaces 16a, 16b respectively on a washer 16 abutting the bearing housing. Fig 5 shows an arrangement in which the load is shared by five bearings 2, 5, 10, 13 and 20, the load ori the lower four bearings being transmitted to a sleeve member 16a in a manner similar to the embodiment shown in Fig. 4. A split washer 22 has surfaces 22a, 22b so inclined as to proportion the loads taken by the sleeve 16a and the upper bearing 20. |
