A system for testing a night vision device 104 comprises a detection means e.g. a camera 106 arranged to detect an image produced by the night vision device and to output image data encoding the image, and a processing device arranged to analyse the image data to determine whether the image meets at least one criterion, and to generate an output indicative of whether the at least one criterion is met. The criterion may relate to the presence of features such as blemishes or hexagonal patterns in the image, or the resolution of, or distortion caused by, the night vision device. Preferably the system comprises a display screen on which to display the image. Preferably any features identified are highlighted. Preferably there are also image generating means arranged to generate an input image so that the image produced by the night vision device is an output image reproducing the input image. Preferably the processing means is arranged to measure a parameter to calculate the gain of the device, the gross distortion produced by the device or the magnification of the device. Also disclosed is a system for aiding a user in focusing an optical device. |
