For selecting a network/network interface, a method is disclosed that includes associating executable code with one or more network interfaces, selecting one of the network interfaces responsive to detecting network communication originating at the executable code, and directing the network communication to the selected network interface. The executable code may include applications, operating systems, drivers or libraries. The network interfaces available may be prioritised based on suitability of the interface for e.g. the application requesting communication. The selection of interface may also be based on the destination device of the communication or based on an indication/input from the user. The selection may be based on application type/category. For example one embodiment relates to only allowing financial communications from a financial application to be performed over networks/interfaces with particular security requirements or to prioritise networks for entertainment type applications. Reliability of the networks may also be embodied as well as Quality of Service, speed, delay etc. |
