The opening of the gate 14 of a skip in a skip hoist is delayed to permit energy to be stored, to actuate the door opening mechanism, by movement of the skip past its unloading position. In the construction illustrated the gate 14 is connected by springs 26 to rods 23 connected by cables 20 to pulleys 22 on arms 18 (Fig. 1), turned about pivots 19 by cams (not shown) fixed in the shaft and engaging rollers 17. As the skip rises towards the unloading shoot 11 the springs 26 are tensioned until further cams fixed in the shaft engage rollers 31 (Fig. 2), to release catches 29 to permit the gate 14 to open. Pneumatic or rubber devices may replace the springs 26. |
