In a motion transformer for producing compressional waves in liquids and comprising a plurality of legs of the type described in the parent Specification, lateral strut means is provided between the legs to modify the natural lateral vibration periods so that they cannot adversely affect the longitudinal vibrations. As shown, Fig. 1, the strut means consists of a web consisting of three portions 16a ... 16c. In the case where four legs are used, continuous webs may be used connecting the legs and diaphragm to form a continuous surface preventing the liquid from reaching the back of the diaphragm and causing corrosion. Thus the motion transformer, Figs. 8, 11, consists of a hollow member, the thickened parts 33 of the walls corresponding to the legs and the thin parts 34 to the webs. The member may be made in two parts 30a, 30b, which are brazed or cemented together at a conical interface. Radial stiffening ribs 37 may be provided for the diaphragm. In a modification, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the interface between the two portions is horizontal. In a further modification, Fig. 14, the interface 41 between the two portions is vertical, each portion consisting of a wedge-shaped part 42 having a cross-section as shown in Fig. 16.
