508,372. Gas - adsorption apparatus. SADLER, A. L. (Pittsburgh Lectrodryer Corporation) Dec. 22, 1937, No. 35432. [Class 1 (i)] Adsorption apparatus for the treatment of gases comprises a bed of adsorbent subdivided into sectors, and a rotary cylindrical circumferentially ported valve for supplying separate streams of treatment and reactivation fluid to different sectors in predetermined sequence, the streams passing through the bed in opposite directions. A stream of drying or cooling fluid may also be passed through the bed after reactivation and may subsequently be mixed with the reactivation fluid of another sector. The drying or cooling fluid may be a part of the treatment fluid, or it may be of separate origin. The cylindrical valve may be divided into upper and lower parts by a partition t. The upper part is divided into three sectors w, x, y, the two former being open at the top to inlet h<1> and the last communicating through a lateral port with chamber e and outlet m. The lower part is divided into two sectors x<1>, y<1> communicating with outlet j and inlet k respectively. Treatment fluid passes from inlet h<1> through valve sector x adsorbent beds b, valve sector x<1> to outlet j. Reactivation fluid entering at k passes through other sectors of the bed in the opposite direction to outlet m. A part of the treatment fluid is byepassed through valve sector w to the sector of adsorbent to be cooled and dried, and then mingles in valve sector y<1> with the reactivation fluid and passes again through the adsorbent. |
