Supporting means for heavy portable objects comprises a plurality of elongated skid members, each member comprising a strip of felt 4 disposed in a metal channel 1 and retained therein by inwardly bent edges 3 of the side walls 2 of the channel 1. The face 6 of the felt strip 4 remote from the channel is convexly bowed. Holes 7 are provided in the channel 1 through which screws are adapted to pass for securing the member to the object being supported.
