PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device superior in ignitability while suppressing wear of an ignition plug.SOLUTION: An ignition device has an ignition coil; an ignition plug; and voltage limiting means. The ignition coil has a primary coil and a secondary coil magnetically connected to the primary coil. The ignition plug generates discharge spark between a center electrode and an earth electrode by application of voltage therebetween on the basis of magnetic energy accumulated in the ignition coil. The voltage limiting means limits an absolute value of voltage V applied between the electrodes while permitting discharge between the electrodes of the ignition plug, so that it is not over a prescribed voltage limit value Vh, after termination of a discharge voltage portion generating on the ignition plug first by electric energy supplied from the ignition coil. |
