<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer in which contaminations adhered to the surface of a thermal head and the peripheral surface of a platen roller can be removed, the thermal printer allowing a user to confirm effects in regard to the removal of the contaminations. <P>SOLUTION: A label printer 1 includes the thermal head 10 and the platen roller 15, and performs printing by controlling heat generation of each heat generation element 11, while conveying a sheet. A cleaning sheet 50 includes a head cleaning area 52A of a predetermined surface roughness, a head state confirmation area 52B and a cleaning effect confirmation area 52C which are located on the side of the thermal head 10, and includes a roller cleaning area 53A of a predetermined adhesion located on the side of the platen roller 15. The label printer 1 conveys the cleaning sheet 50 and remove the contaminations on the surface of the thermal head 10 and on the surface of the platen roller 15 (S4 to S8).
