The utility model provides a lateral-side machining device of a rigid fragility plate. Grinding machining and cutting machining are carried out on the cut-off edge of the rigid fragility plate. Flaw increase caused by thinning of a display panel and the like can be restrained as far as possible through prevention of formerly neglected strength reduction of the rigid fragility plate due to lateral side machining. With respect to the position setting, namely locating or feeding, of the grinding wheel used for machining the lateral side of the rigid fragility plate, the pushing force, namely locating force or feeding force, towards the direction of the rigid fragility plate is limited. When a machining load acting on the X-axis direction of the grinding wheel exceeds the limited pushing force, the load acts on the grinding wheel, and the grinding wheel is pushed back in the direction away from the rigid fragility plate.
