A bumper module (beam) 1 for a vehicle comprising an outer part 2 formed unitarily by deep-drawing a sheet of material. The outer part comprises two flanges 6 for attaching the module to vehicle side members 9; arched part 4 connecting the flanges, which curves away from the vehicle; folds 15 in the material which extend from the flanges to the arch. The material may be a thermoplastic matrix, optionally reinforced by a fibre insert. The flanges may comprise screw holes 7, between the elongated folds, for fastening to the vehicle. The module may further comprise an inner part 3, also arch shaped, connected the outer part to create a hollow member, which may be filled with hard foam. The two parts may be joined by glue or thermally such as welding. The outer part may comprise one or more openings for fastening an outer body part, such as a sensor. |
