1. A method to generate a signal for signal strength detection by a receiver, comprising:
selecting a high power level of a transmitter, wherein the high power level is expected to be received at or above a receiver threshold of the receiver, at a predetermined distance from the transmitter; selecting a low power level of the transmitter, wherein the low power level is expected to be received below the receiver threshold, at the predetermined distance from the transmitter; transmitting, by the transmitter, a marker signal at the high power level; and adjacent in time to the marker signal, transmitting a power-varying signal, wherein a power of the power-varying signal varies monotonically between the high power level and the low power level.
