摘要 The present invention relates to a monitoring system for monitoring disruption to a fiber line in an optical Ethernet communication network. The optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) of the monitoring system for monitoring a fiber line comprises a multi-mode, including a first mode in which a photodiode receives external monitoring light transmitted over a monitoring target fiber line after the external monitoring light has been generated from a termination of the monitoring target fiber line and monitors disruption to at least the monitoring target fiber line; and a second mode in which if disruption is detected as a result of the monitoring in the first mode, a laser generates monitoring light including an optical pulse and outputs the monitoring light through a start end of the monitoring target fiber line, and the photodiode receives the returning monitoring light and measures the location of the disruption in at least the monitoring target fiber line. According to the present invention, advantages arise in that the problem that aging of a high output laser device is accelerated, as in a conventional art, does not occur, and the problem that durability of an expensive OTDR is reduced does not occur. Accordingly, advantages arise in that an optical loss attributable to addition of a filter stage is not present and, thus, there are no reduction in a dynamic range of the OTDR and no loss in a measurable distance.
