Various embodiments for inserting data are disclosed. One embodiment is a system that comprises a stylus device and a computing device. The stylus device comprises an input device configured to capture data, memory configured to store the captured data, and logic for transmitting the stored data. The computing device comprises a touchscreen display, a stylus interface for receiving the transmitted capture data, and an application executable in the computing device, where the application comprises logic that inserts the data received by the stylus interface on the touchscreen display.

a stylus device, comprising:
an input device configured to capture data;memory configured to store the captured data;logic for transmitting the stored data; andlogic for maintaining an index of the captured data according to media type; and a computing device, comprising:
a touchscreen display configured to receive an insertion point from the stylus device via the stylus device coming in contact with the touchscreen display,the insertion point directly corresponding to a location where the stylus device applies a tap to the touchscreen display,wherein the stylus transmits the index to the computing device responsive to the stylus device coming in contact with the touchscreen display;a peripheral interface for receiving the transmitted captured data responsive to the touchscreen display sensing the tap applied by the stylus device; andan application executable in the computing device, the application comprising:
logic for receiving the index from the stylus device;logic for displaying a user interface according to the received index;logic for receiving a selection responsive to the displayed user interface and transmitting the selection to the stylus,wherein responsive to receiving the selection, the stylus transmits captured data corresponding to the selection,logic that displays the captured data received by the peripheral interface at the insertion point on the touchscreen display.
