A sea cell comprises positive plates 3, each formed of a box-like wire mesh structure 3a enclosing highly compressed positive active material 3b, e.g. cuprous chloride, which are located within a rigid assembly of negative plates 1, e.g. of magnesium, by means of insulating spacers 4. The negative plates are interconnected by metal bars 2 which may be cast integral with the plates as shown. The cell is protected before use from atmospheric moisture by a metal or plastic can 6, the top 6a of which is attached by a bracket 5 to the bars 2. The body of the can is sealed to the top 6a by a tear-off strip 7, the strip being torn off and the body of the can removed when the celf is to be used. A hermetically sealed plug 11 for the connecting cable and a supporting lanyard 10 are provided on the lid. The wire mesh 3a and the positive active material 3b are preferably pressed together. |
