PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with an increased signal speed without impairing maintainability and connection reliability.SOLUTION: Transmission equipment includes a backboard on which, out of a first unit and a second unit, at least the first unit is detachably mountable. The backboard includes an electrical connector, an optical modulation unit and a first optical transmission path. The electrical connector is connected to the first unit. The optical modulation unit modulates light from a light source to output an optical signal, on the basis of the electric signal input from the first unit via the electrical connector.
