Disclosed are a system and a method for operating a sensor and an actuator based on a correlation coefficient. A gateway of the system receives sensor data from a plurality of sensors measuring external environmental information and provides control data for a plurality of actuators driving a plurality of external devices. A sensor and actuator management device collects a plurality of sensor data through the gateway to provide the plurality of sensor data for a service system, and transfers, to the gateway, the control data of the actuator to be driven by the sensor data in response to a service request from the service system. The sensor and actuator management device include a correlation table showing a correlation between characteristic values respectively representing the plurality of sensor and actuators used for a service to be provided, and the sensor and actuator management device responds to the service request by providing the service system with the sensor data of the sensor and driving information of the actuator corresponding to the characteristic value having at least a certain degree of correlation with a particular one of the characteristic values in the correlation table. |
