PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to stably detect the size of a document within a predetermined time, while suppressing the total intensity of light from light sources that irradiate the document with light.SOLUTION: An imaging element includes: a light source control part that controls a plurality of light sources arranged in one direction to synchronize with a synchronization signal to irradiate a document with light in a predetermined combination within a predetermined period; a light receiving part that includes a plurality of light receiving elements arranged in one direction to photoelectrically convert reflected light of irradiation light from the light sources; and a level detection part that synchronizes a signal level at which the plurality of light receiving elements have photoelectrically converted the reflected light to the synchronization signal to detect the level within a predetermined period.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
