PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of tetrabutylammonium acetate which is suitable for simply and easily dissolving cellulose by appropriately selecting and processing a raw material to be used and a solvent.SOLUTION: Using tributylamine as a starting material, a production method includes: a step to obtain a tetrabutylammonium halide by a reaction of tributylamine with a butyl halide in an aprotic polar organic solvent; a step to obtain tetrabutylammonium hydroxide by a reaction of the tetrabutylammonium halide with an alkali metal hydroxide in an alcohol; and a step to obtain tetrabutylammonium acetate by a reaction of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide with acetic acid in the alcohol.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
