The present invention relates to a method and a device to recognize the iris of an electronic device. According to various embodiments of the present invention, the method comprises: a step of displaying a preview image by operating a general camera; a step of displaying an iris recognition area, corresponding to an iris recognition camera, on the preview image; a step of determining whether an iris image exists in the iris recognition area or not; and a step of recognizing the iris by obtaining image information from the iris recognition camera if the iris image exists in the iris recognition area. The present invention is capable of improving usability by displaying an iris area, which is the same as an actual eye image, through a color image.
