The present invention relates to a method for controlling an electric parking brake system. The method for controlling an electric parking brake system for releasing a braking force comprises the following steps of: determining, by a control unit, whether or not the rotational direction of a motor is a direction to release the braking force; when the motor is rotated in the direction to release the braking force, measuring, by the control unit, a drive current of the motor so as to determine whether or not the slope of the drive current is rising; when the slope of the drive current is rising, determining, by the control unit, whether or not the slope of the drive current has a preset slope value; and when the slope of the drive current is the preset slope, determining, by the control unit, that the brake is released so as to complete a brake releasing operation. |
