[Problem] To enable a photoacoustic image generation device which has a puncture needle comprising an outer needle and an inner needle that includes an optical fiber to confirm the position of the puncture needle, even when the inner needle has been withdrawn from the outer needle. [Solution] A puncture needle (15) includes an outer needle and an inner needle, and the inner needle includes a light emission unit and a photoacoustic wave generation unit. An insertion/withdrawal detection means (30) detects whether the inner needle of the puncture needle (15) has been withdrawn from the outer needle. When it is detected that the inner needle has been withdrawn, a processing switching means (31) changes the image display to a different image display from the image display before it was detected that the inner needle had been withdrawn. |
