The present invention relates to a method for braking a rotating device. A rotating device supports a rotating body to be axially rotated by floating the rotating body using an air foil bearing, wherein the rotating body is rotated by a rotating magnetic field of a rotor and a stator. The method applies a current for generating a stationary magnetic field generating a magnetic force in one direction to the stator to stop the rotating body, thereby stopping the rotating body while the rotating body is floated in the air in order to minimize friction between the rotating body and the bearing.
