The invention relates to the layer presentation of a volume (V) having an inserted object (O), which volume is reconstructed from projections. A plurality of projections (P1, P2) of tissue containing the object (O) is recorded. A reconstruction of volume data (V) for the tissue and a determination of the position of the inserted object (O) in the reconstructed volume data (V) are performed. Finally, a layer orientation and/or layer position is defined in accordance with the determined position of the object (O) and a layer (MPRn) produced from the volume data (V) is displayed in accordance with the defined orientation and/or position.
