Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for counting an entity by using location information extracted from depth image information. According to an aspect of the present invention, an entity recognition apparatus comprises: a filtering portion filtering-out background information from the depth image information by receiving the depth image information; a first extraction portion which extracts location information of a part having a preset shape from the depth image information filtered-out by the filtering portion; and a second extraction portion which receives infrared image information and extracts a part having a preset shape from the infrared image information by using the location information of the part having the preset shape.
