The present invention relates to a head up display device for a vehicle and an operating method thereof, wherein a display screen is divided into predetermined areas, and the areas correspond to a mirror that reflects a display image to a combiner and a mirror that reflects a display image to a windshield, respectively, thereby enabling a driver to receive information through the windshield as well as the combiner. To this end, the head up display device for the vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a display part which has a display area including a left area, a middle area, and a right area; a reflecting part which reflects an image displayed on the left area (hereinafter referred to as a left image) to be projected onto a left area of the windshield, reflects an image displayed on the right area (hereinafter referred to as a right image) to be projected onto a right area of the windshield, and reflects an image displayed on the middle area (hereinafter referred to as a middle image) to be projected onto the combiner; the windshield which projects the left/right images reflected by the reflecting part to create a virtual image; the combiner which projects the middle image reflected by the reflecting part to create a virtual image; and a control part which sets information to be displayed on the left area, the middle area and the right area, and controls the display part to display the set information on each area. |
