A media server and method of operation of a media server in a wireless communication system are provided. The media server receives media streams from mobile communication devices in the wireless communication system, and routes the media streams sequentially to a packet header compression encoder. A processor of the media server is configured to receive a first media stream from a first mobile communication device, receive a request from a second mobile communication device to transmit a second media stream to the media server, and transmit data derived from an RTP header of the first media stream to the second mobile communication device. The second mobile communication device is enabled to commence transmission of the second transmitted media stream using the data derived from the RTP header. The wireless communication system may be a PTT wireless communication system or a group video wireless communication system.

a processor configured to:
receive a first media stream from a first mobile communication device;receive a request from a second mobile communication device to transmit a second media stream to the media server;transmit data derived from an RTP header of the first media stream to the second mobile communication device;whereby the second mobile communication device is enabled to commence transmission of the second transmitted media stream using the data derived from the RTP header.
