Lighting units, systems, and methods are described herein for determining whether occupancy detections are legitimate or not. Methods and systems are further described herein for powering down a network of power over ethernet (PoE) components.

1. A lighting unit (2850), comprising:
one or more light sources (2858); one or more occupancy sensors (2862); and a control module (2852) configured to: receive, from the one or more occupancy sensors, a signal indicative of detection, by the one or more occupancy sensors, of occupancy near the lighting unit; determine one or more occupancy states (2855) of one or more remote lighting units within a given proximity of the lighting unit; determine an occupancy history (2857) associated with the lighting unit; calculate, based on the one or more occupancy states and the detected occupancy history, a likelihood that the detection of occupancy by the one or more occupancy sensors is legitmate; and set an occupancy state of the lighting unit based on the calculated likelihood.
