796,466. Sealing glass parts together. OWENS ILLINOIS GLASS CO. Aug. 13, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 24657/56. Class 56. Apparatus for coating with a molten sealing composition the peripheral flange F of a glass member such as the screen 20 of a cathode-ray tube, for subsequent sealing to another glass member such as the end of the conical part of the tube comprises two supports 25 having vertical and horizontal contact points 29, 30, 31, 32 engaging the inside of the screen. When on the left-hand support the peripheral flange is heated by correspondingly positioned burners 15a. It is then transferred to the second support which is given a rocking rolling motion whereby the flange is progressively immersed in and removed from the sealing composition container in a correspondingly-shaped trough member 40. The means for giving the rocking rolling motion to the second support 25 comprise a mitre gear 70, Fig. 6, secured to a yoke 53 to which a link 50 is pivoted at 52, and the inclination of the link 50 relative to shaft 71 can be varied by adjusting screws 55, 56. The upper end of link 50 is pivoted at 51 to another yoke 49, and a downward extension 47 of a member 45 to which the support 25 is secured has a free sliding connection with the upper end of the yoke 49. The intermediate portion 46 of the member 45, 47 fulcrums at 63 in a collar 60 which itself fulcrums at 61, 62 in the stationary support 65. |
