摘要 A hybrid band intelligent backhaul radio (HB-IBR) is disclosed that is a combination of two radios operating in different bands. Embodiments include a dual radio configuration wherein a first radio operates in a non-line of sight (NLOS) radio link configuration and a second ancillary radio operates in a near line of sight or line of sight configuration (n)LOS. For example, the HB-IBR may have an Intelligent Backhaul Radio (IBR) operating in the non-line of sight mode of operation within the 5.8 GHz unlicensed band, and have an ancillary radio link operating in the FCC part 101 E band of operation at 60 GHz. A common medium access control (MAC) block may be utilized between the dual radios.

A method for installing a first hybrid band radio for communicating with at least a second hybrid band radio, wherein the first hybrid band radio comprises at least a first transmitter, a first receiver and a first antenna assembly for communicating over a first wireless link within one or more first frequency bands and a second transmitter, a second receiver and a second antenna assembly for communicating over a second wireless link within one or more second frequency bands, said method comprising: course aligning a physical mounting of the first hybrid band radio in a direction chosen to connect with the second hybrid band radio over at least the second wireless link; establishing at least the second wireless link between the first hybrid band radio and the second hybrid band radio; determining one or more metrics associated with the first wireless link between the first hybrid band radio and the second hybrid band radio; communicating over the second wireless link at least one of the one or more metrics or at least one control message associated with the determining of at least one of the one or more metrics; fine aligning based upon at least one of the one or more metrics at least one of the physical mounting of the first hybrid band radio, a position of the first antenna assembly, or an electronic steering of the first antenna assembly; wherein at least one of the one or more first frequency bands is an upper band located above 10 GHz within a radio frequency (RF) spectrum range, and at least one of the one or more second frequency bands is a lower band located at or below 10 GHz within the radio frequency (RF) spectrum range; and wherein a second antenna beamwidth associated with the second antenna assembly is wider than a first antenna beamwidth associated with the first antenna assembly.
