[Class 75 (iii)] In a pocket or table igniter simulating a book, the friction-wheel 7 is coupled by a oneway clutch with a pivoted arm 8 adapted to be engaged by a projection 18 on a sliding bar 14, pivoted to the cover 4 and engaging a guideway 17, so that, on opening the cover, the arm 8 is moved against the action of a spring 11 until it is released and rapidly returned by the spring for rotating the wheel 7 to ignite the wick 5. The wick-cap 20 is pivoted to the cover and urged by a spring 21 into engagement with a stop 22 when the cover is open so that it snuffs the wick before the cover can reach the flame. The body 1 is preferably provided with a cover-plate (not shown), secured by screws to posts 19 to cover the mechanism but not the wick 5 and the flint tube 6, the bar 14 passing through a slot in the cover-plate. The flint tube 6 may be provided with a slot and a retractable spring-pressed plunger to permit insertion of a flint. The body 1 and cover 4 are bound in leather, cloth, &c. |
