Mobile Drilling Rig

A mobile drilling rig is mountable on a separate drive chassis having running gear. A separate main frame may be having elongated members, each having outer end extensions and vertically adjustable support posts thereon. A slide chassis is slidable on one end of the main frame mounting a power plant, and a mast pivot support pivotally mounted on the other end of the main frame. An elongated mast has a drill head movable thereon, with the mast pivot support slidably mounting the mast thereon so that the mast may be pivoted between vertical and horizontal orientations thereon while being movable in lengthwise directions. The slide chassis, the mast and drill head are moved to positions improving the stability of the rig when traversing grades in an up or down hill direction.

1. A mobile drilling rig comprising:
a main frame adapted to be transported by a drive chassis having running gear, said main frame adapted to be detachably affixed thereto, said main frame having four vertical supports projecting downwardly therefrom able to be extendable down past said running gear to engage said terrain or paved surface on which said running gear components are disposed; a power plant supported on said main frame for powering actuators operating said drilling rig; an elongated mast mounted to one end of said main frame by a mast pivot support located on said one end of said main frame; said mast pivot support selectively driven by one or more of said actuators to be pivoted, with said mast able to be pivoted thereby between a generally vertical orientation at said one end of said main frame to a generally horizontal orientation extending generally horizontally back over said main frame; said mast pivot support including one or more of said actuators enabling driving said mast vertically in one rotative position of said mast pivot support in which said mast is vertically oriented or horizontally in another rotative position of said mast pivot support in which said mast is oriented horizontally; and a drill head able to hole a drill tool and powered by said power plant to drive a drill tool held thereon, said drill head mounted on said mast with a drill head drive comprising one of said actuators powered by said power plant enabling said drill head to be moved in either direction along a length of said mast.
