PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of using gene PIK3CA, which is one member of a gene family of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PI3Ks) known as important regulators of signaling pathways, has a majority of mutations clustered near two positions within PI3K helical or kinase domains, and is one of the most highly mutated oncogenes not yet identified in human cancers.SOLUTION: A method comprises determining a non-synonymous, intragenic mutation in a PIK3CA coding sequence in a body sample of a human suspected of having a cancer, and estimating the human to be likely to have a cancer if the mutation is observed in the body sample.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
