The present invention detects PM sensor failure at an early stage and with high precision. The present invention is provided with: a PM sensor (10) that includes a PM amount estimate calculation unit (42) that estimates the amount of PM that is in exhaust on the basis of the electrostatic capacitance between electrode members (32, 33), at least one pair of which is provided to a filter member (31) that is arranged on an exhaust passage (110) of an internal combustion engine (100) and that includes a cell that collects PM that is in exhaust, wherein the electrode members (32, 33) sandwich the cell, are arranged so as to face, and form a capacitor; an exhaust temperature sensor (250) that is provided to the exhaust passage (110) and that detects exhaust temperature; and a PM sensor abnormality determination unit (43) that compares the electrostatic capacitance between the electrode members (32, 33) with a sensor value from the exhaust temperature sensor (250) and determines whether there is an abnormality in the PM sensor (10). |
