PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a posture retaining apparatus which is worn and used by a worker, and is structured so as not to impose resistance when the worker moves an arm part to a desired position.SOLUTION: A posture retaining apparatus includes: a main body part attached to a worker; arm parts 5, 6 attached to arms extending from shoulders of the worker; a retaining mechanism which can switch between an allowing state of allowing movement of the arm parts 5, 6 accompanied with movement of the arms of the worker attached to the arm parts 5, 6, and a retaining state of retaining the arm parts 5, 6 to the main body part. The arm parts 5, 6 are attached to upper arms of the worker. The arm parts 5, 6 are set so that they extend forward from the shoulders of the worker, and end parts of the arm parts 5, 6 are positioned nearer to shoulder sides than elbows of the worker.
