Disclosed is a system for moving a movable barrier, such as a garage door (see figure 11). The system comprises a fluid-based spring counterbalance mechanism (800) with a fluid based spring or rubberised bladder (510) that is located between two plates (520, 530) and is compressed or expanded by a translational cable (550) and pulley or caster (560) system when a garage door is opened or closed e.g. by a rotating shaft (580). The spring opposes the downward force of the garage door or wing. |
