Downhole communication

Disclosed is a wellbore communication system. The system comprises a downhole tool has a downhole transmitter, a sensing element (22) located at surface and coupled to a surface receiver (8) and an insulated slickline (6). The slickline (6) has an electrically conductive core surrounded by an insulating coating. The slickline (6) is attached to the downhole too and coupled to the downhole transmitter. The sensing element (22) and the slickline (6) are capacitively coupled so as to permit relative movement there between and so as to permit an electric field to extend from the core of the slickline (6) to the sensing element (22) through the insulating coating of the slickline (6) for transmission of information from the downhole transmitter to the surface receiver (8) via the slickline (6) and the sensing element (22).
