The invention relates to a single or multiple pole switching device (1) which has a switch chamber (5) with an arc extinguishing device (4, 26, 27, 28) for each pole, wherein the switch chamber (5) has two lateral walls (3) between which a cage (16) is arranged that is provided for mounting a movable contact bridge (10), wherein contacts (12) are arranged on the contact bridge (10), wherein the arc extinguishing device (4, 26, 27, 28) has a plurality of quenching plates (26), the ends (27) of which are accommodated in a pocket arrangement (4). In order to provide a cost-effective and reliable single or multiple pole switching device (1) it is proposed that the lateral walls (3) have a support (7) for laterally supporting the cage (16) in a direction transverse with respect to the switching direction of the contacts (12) and parallel to the lateral walls (3), wherein the pocket arrangement (4) is a component that is separate from the cage (16), which pocket arrangement (4) is spaced apart from the cage (16) such that it does not provide such lateral support for the cage (16). |
