WALKING ASSISTANCE METHOD AND SYSTEM, AND RECORDING MEDIUM FOR PERFORMING SAME

A walking assistance method and system, and a recording medium for performing the same are disclosed. The walking assistance method comprises: generating a laser profile including depth information for each point of an object which is in front of a user; extracting edges from an image acquired using a camera so as to generate an edge profile including edge information on the image; generating a multi-modal profile by merging the generated laser profile and the generated edge profile; detecting and classifying obstacles located in a short distance using the generated multi-modal profile; predicting a movement of the user using the multi-modal profile; recognizing a walking environment of the user using information on the detected and classified obstacles and information on the movement of the user; and providing a walking assistance guide service to the user according to the recognized walking environment.
