<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, capable of maintaining high perpendicular orientation of a perpendicular magnetic layer and achieving higher recording density. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium in which at least a soft magnetic backing layer 31, a seed layer 32, an intermediate layer 33 and a perpendicular magnetic layer 34 are sequentially laminated on a nonmagnetic substrate 30 comprises: forming, as the seed layer 32, an eutectic alloy film including two or more kinds of elements composing an eutectic structure and having columnar crystal nuclei 32a dispersed in dot shapes; and forming a microcrystal film having the crystal nucleus 32a projected from the surface of the eutectic alloy film by applying an etching process to the surface of the eutectic alloy film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
