800,061. Cutting by spark discharge. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 3, 1956 [Sept. 6, 1955], No. 26864/56. Class 83 (4). An electro-erosion device comprises a vibrating electrode 3 slidably mounted in a guide member 6 and which is alternately brought into contact with and separated from the workpiece 2, the guide member 6 being slidable against friction restraint on a support 12, and wherein a weight 8 mounted on the electrode 3 is adapted to impact against the guide member and displace it towards the workpiece for downward feeding of the electrode. Spring-loaded friction pads 15 adjustable by screws 13 restrain the movement of the guide member on the supports 12. A pulsating voltage applied to a winding 10 causes a ferromagnetic core 9 on the electrode to be alternately raised and released, the electrode being biased towards the workpiece by springs 7 which may be adjustable. The weight 8 is also adjustably mounted on the electrode. An electric potential is supplied between the electrode and workpiece through terminals 5.
