Method for operating a transport system

The method involves transporting printed sheets (1) with conveying belt (2) operative downstream of printing press along conveying path. The conveying path is divided into two individually operating conveying paths at branching location downstream from the main conveying belt (9). The folded printed sheets are transferred from the continuously operating folding devices (5,6) in straddling position to corresponding intermediate gathering devices. The straddling folded printed sheets are transferred from the intermediate gathering devices (7,8) to main conveying section.
