The device has twin spring system and single spring system with brush elements (B-1-B-n) which are arranged opposing a base board (34) and provided with an initial pressure force (F1) based on thickness of mail item along transportation path. The pressure force of the brush elements is increased to minimum pressure force (F2) and increased pressure force (F3) with increasing thickness of the mail item, where the pressure forces are set satisfying a preset relationship. The stop elements (341) of base board are provided to limit stroke of base board to base plate (38).
