A modular reel drive assembly comprises two reel drive towers 12, 14, a reel hub adapter 54 and a reel hub adapter support 22, 24. The hub adapter support 22, 24 comprises at least one support pin which is movable between a storage position in which the at least one support pin is not aligned with at least one aperture on the hub adapter support 22, 24 and an operational position in which the support pin is aligned with at least one aperture on the hub adapter support 22, 24. At least one aperture on the hub adaptor support 22, 24 may be aligned with at least one aperture 26a, 26b, 28a, 28b on at least one reel drive tower 12, 14. The reel hub adapter support 22, 24 may comprise a sliding drive unit 24, a crawler unit 22, at least one lifting device, at least one hydraulic cylinder 30, 32, 34, 36 which moves the support pin and/or a protective frame. The reel drive towers 12, 14 may each comprise at least one channel 18, 20 in which the hub adaptor support 22, 24 is slidably mounted. |
