A vehicle headlamp apparatus (200) includes a lamp unit (10) operable to form an auxiliary light distribution pattern (Hil, Hi2, Hi3, Lo3) including a region above a cutoff line of a low beam light distribution pattern (Lo1, Lo2), and a controller (228) which controls a light irradiation of the lamp unit (10) in accordance with a vehicle ahead of a vehicle (300), on which the vehicle headlamp apparatus (200) is mounted. The controller (228) limits a formation of the auxiliary light distribution pattern (Hi1, Hi2, Hi3, Lo3) when the controller (228) determines that a brightness of a surrounding environment exceeds a predetermined brightness (Lx1, Lx2).
