Class 44 A device for locking an element 1 to a member 2 in which the element 1 is slidable in the member 2 and has an inclined end.surface 4 inclined to the direction of sliding; a wedge 11, also slidable in member 2 and having an inclined surface 12 for co-operating with the surface 4, is internally screw threaded for engagement with a bolt 9 which passes through the element 1 so that when the bolt 9 is rotated the wedge 11 and element 1 are drawn into contact, further rotation causes the wedge 11 to move sideways relative to the element 1 so that they become forced against opposite sides of the bore of the member 2 to lock the element in the member 2. The head 10 of bolt 9 bears on a cap 6 surrounding a ring 5 at the lower end of the element 1, in the locked position, the bolt 9 is not directed along the longitudinal axis of the element. The described application is to a footrest 3 fixed to or integral with the element 1, the member 2 being a member of a wheel chair. |
