Electrical Connector Having Contact Modules

An electrical connector (102) comprises a housing (108) holding a plurality of contact modules (204). Each of the contact modules (204) includes two signal wafers (216, 218) stacked next to each other and extending parallel to a contact module plane (210). Each of the signal wafers (216, 218) includes electrical terminals (220) held by a dielectric body (222). The electrical terminals (220) have mounting contacts (226) protruding from the dielectric body (222). The electrical terminals (220) of at least one signal wafer (216, 218) in each contact module (204) are jogged toward the other signal wafer (216, 218) in the same contact module (204) such that the mounting contacts (226) of each contact module (204) are aligned in a column (230) that extends parallel to the contact module plane (210). A plurality of ground plates (206) are held by the housing (108). Each of the ground plates (206) is disposed along an outer side of a respective contact module (204) and extends parallel to the respective contact module plane (210).
