<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission which can suppress relative displacement between an outer wheel (power roller) and a trunnion, and can perform stable transmission ratio control regardless of a load acting on the transmission. <P>SOLUTION: The toroidal type continuously variable transmission has a support element 300 including a first tapered groove 212 provided in the trunnion 15A, a pin 210 engaged with the first groove 212, a second groove 230 provided in the outer wheel 28A and a biasing member 200 disposed in the second groove 230 and applying a biasing force for pressing the pin 210 to the first groove 212 with respect to the pin 210.
